The truth is that Peru is awesome to visit all months of the year, with each month offering something slightly different. The dry season months (from May until October) are considered the best for weather, and also for hiking in different terrains. However the wet season (November until April) also promises adventure, where we can enjoy more authentic destinations without the crowds whilst also having a better chance of spotting rare wildlife.
One of the biggest head-to-head questions, both Cusco and Lima offer us tonnes. Cusco was once the heart of the Inca Empire, and as such we can explore various ancient ruins such as Machu Picchu and Sacsayhuamán – whilst also hiking around the beautiful mountains of the Sacred Valley. Lima is the modern capital of Peru, boasting a world-class cuisine as well as some of the finest museums in the country. From here we can also access some incredible Pacific beaches with ease.
When planning your Peru vacation, you’ll want to remember that this is quite a large South American country. Usually in most cases 2 weeks is enough to see the major highlights (Lima, Cusco, Machu Picchu etc), however you’ll want to plan around 3 weeks if you are looking to tick-off more of the lesser-known gems around Peru.
