What to bring to Machu Picchu?

Before embarking on this magical journey, you must prepare your luggage properly so that you do not miss anything and can enjoy your visit to the fullest. Here is a complete guide on what to bring:

1. Identity Card or Passport: This document is basic; you will be asked for it when buying tickets and during the entrance to the citadel. Make sure you have a backup copy in your email or the cloud.

2. Entrance Tickets and Transportation: Don’t forget to bring your Machu Picchu entrance and train tickets printed or on your mobile device if you decide to arrive by train.

3. Comfortable Clothes and Layers: The weather in Cusco can change quickly.

4. Adequate footwear: Wear comfortable trekking or sports shoes with good soles.

5. Sun Protection: The sun in the Andean heights can be very intense, even when the day is cloudy.

6. Rain poncho: The weather in Machu Picchu is unpredictable, and rain is common, especially between November and March.

7. Lightweight Backpack: It should be enough to carry your basic belongings without being a burden. Remember that there are restrictions on the size of backpacks allowed in Machu Picchu.

8. Water and Snacks: Stay hydrated and, although inside Machu Picchu you are not allowed to eat, you can enjoy your provisions in the designated areas outside the citadel.

9. Camera and Batteries: Be sure to bring your camera with charged batteries and, if possible, extra batteries. If you prefer to use your smartphone, consider carrying a power bank.

10. Medications and First Aid Kit: Bring any medications you need and a small kit that includes bandages, disinfectants, and painkillers.

11. Insect Repellent: Especially if you visit during the rainy season, insect repellent is a must to keep pesky mosquitoes at bay.

12. Hiking Poles: If you plan on trekking, such as Huayna Picchu or the Inca Trail, hiking poles can be a great help.

13. Cash: Although there are ATMs in Aguas Calientes, carrying some cash for small expenses, tips and emergencies is advisable.

14. Good mood and adventurous spirit: The most important thing is to bring a positive attitude and a desire to discover. Machu Picchu is a place full of history, mystery, and natural beauty that will leave you in awe.

Be well prepared and enjoy every moment in this archaeological jewel. Have a good trip!
